    We are looking to add an Associate Raw Materials & Sourcing Specialist to our Raw Materials Sourcing team located in Freeport, Maine.  The successful candidate will be responsible for material and trim vendor performance and ensuring that L.L.Bean's requirements for cost, quality, and on time delivery are met. They will also facilitate the development and commercialization of all materials and trims and coordinate with internal and external partners in the research, development, communication and recommendation of new fabrics and trims on a seasonal basis.

    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for fabric and trim supplier relationships. Ensures suppliers are aware of quality standards, timelines, and product development processes.
    • Work with the Product Creation team to identify and evaluate potential suppliers to provide new and innovative materials, finishes, and technologies compatible with L.L.Bean's standards.
    • Responsible for negotiations related to pricing, lead times and minimums in fabric, material and finished goods. Negotiates with vendor and supports garment costing and margin targets.
    • Keep the Raw Materials/Sourcing team leadership informed of new trends, and any changes in industry standards and environmental compliance policies.
    • Responsible for raw material testing. Ensure all relevant fabric specification data is entered into FLEX PLM system. Submit raw materials for testing in accordance with corporate timelines. Work with material supplier until full commercialization is achieved.
    • Facilitate and coordinate raw material and finished goods suppliers’ seasonal presentations.
    • Responsible for fabric and trim library including the latest supplier collections.
    • Monitor market dynamics and coordinates the research of seasonal fabric and trim trends. Responsible for obtaining strategic direction from Product Development and Design and provide appropriate raw materials options to meet teams seasonal product needs.
    • Work with the Raw Materials team to initiate, communicate and follow through with materials suppliers supporting the development of seasonal styles.
    • Track, monitor, and facilitate seasonal fabric, trim, and wash development. Compile, maintain and update seasonal fabric and trim information sheets.
    • Work with leadership to help plan, develop, and organize best practices of strategic materials management systems and help recommend improvements to existing policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Actively research and develop contacts with material mills, working groups, technology firms, design/engineering groups and academia to keep abreast, learn and identify industry developments for technology, innovation and sustainability. Prioritize search initiatives prioritized in accordance with corporate goals.
    • Provide insight to emerging trends, identify improvements and learning s for key innovations and new opportunities to insure L.L.Bean is in a leadership position of new technology.
    • Work to develop and commercialize a variety of new chemicals, formulas and chemical products with suppliers.

    Qualifications

    • Associate's degree, Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Focus on
    • Customer service, retail selling, merchandising or marketing experience
    • Computer proficiency: Word, Excel, Outlook, Flex PLM, SAP, AP
    • Demonstrated analytical thinking
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Creative problem-solving skills/abilities
    • Experience in negotiation with vendors/suppliers
    • Some travel to trade shows and visits to domestic vendors possible
    • Focus on technology, innovation and sustainability
