    L.L. Bean is currently recruiting for a high energy, organized, process-oriented individual to join our team as a Senior Data Engineer to assist with data engineering and big data processing initiatives. The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys working on a variety of data-oriented marketing projects using cloud-based technologies in a fast-paced environment. This position will work closely with other project members, tech leads, architects, engineers, and management to ensure the smooth delivery of releases balancing business enhancements with risk and compliance. May lead smaller efforts or a phase of a project and supervise development staff as part of their duties.


    • Designs, develops, tests, debugs, implements, documents, and maintains software as assigned.
    • Applies formal technologies when designing and developing solutions.
    • Develops and executes test plans for developed and purchased software. Documents results.
    • Estimates and tracks time required to complete work, for project budgeting and financial tracking.
    • Works independently and collaboratively with team; provides regular updates to leader.
    • May participate in the implementation and integration of packaged software.
    • Conducts and participates in design and code reviews.
    • Adheres to security standards in support of PCI compliance, where applicable.
    • Adheres to development standards and provides input to development standards.
    • Responsible for 24x7 research and resolution of production system problems.
    • Coordinates production problem resolution for assigned applications, including working with other technical teams.
    • On call – participates in day time and after hours on call support rotation.
    • May provide guidance and training to less experienced team members.

    The successful candidate will have solid experience in the following technologies:

    • 5+ years of development experience in data warehouse or data management systems
    • 5+ years of development using structured programming languages (Java or similar)
    • Experience working with major cloud platforms (GCP is a plus)
    • Extensive experience with SQL development and tuning (Big Query is a plus)
    • Experience working with on premises and cloud-hosted relational databases
    • Familiarity with non-relational databases and unstructured data (MongoDB, Cloud Datastore a plus)
    • Scripting expertise: Python, JavaScript, Unix scripting.
    • Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum)
    • Experience working with large data processing platforms like Apache Beam, Apache Spark, or Apache Hadoop MapReduce (Google Cloud Dataflow a plus).
    • Experience with Google Analytics is a plus
    • Strong technical aptitude and a willingness to learn and adapt to new and evolving technologies
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Team Skills: facilitation, presentation & group dynamics

    Education Level: BA/ Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Computer Science, or relevant field.

    Experience Level: 5+ years
