    L.L.Bean is currently seeking an Associate Retail Merchandiser, Men’s Active & Signature Apparel who will be responsible for selecting the assortments for all Retail locations.

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Take lead role in the strategic planning for assigned areas
    • Assume responsibility for top line sales and bottom line margin
    • Attend and participate in all corporate product development meetings with the responsibility of informing and influencing the omni-channel assortment offering
    • Select the most compelling, competitive assortment for each store group for each floor set/season
    • Create merchandising vision for each floor set/season to turn over to the Visual team
    • Responsible for leading a highly effective, results driven cross-functional work team



    • Develop pre-season merchandise financial plans in partnership with Planner that achieves department, channel, and corporate objectives. Strategy and vision must be clearly defined and well-articulated
    • Create, communicate and execute a profitable and brand-relevant assortment vision that supports brand positioning and achieves financial targets
    • Shop the market and competition to gain current knowledge of product, category trends, hot items, and new vendors.  Use this knowledge to develop a brand-right, competitive, and differentiated product assortment that drives top line sales.  Share this knowledge with the corporate development team to influence future season development
    • Develop an assortment utilizing sales goals, trends, and market information in order to partner with and communicate Retail needs with our Corporate Product Development team in the development of the corporate line
    • Plan, execute, and manage markdowns and promotions as driven by the corporate channel and initiate retail only markdowns that achieve business goals and company objectives



    • Bring strong leadership presence to interactions with cross functional partners and extended work team.  Establishes high standards and holds others accountable
    • Collaborate with Corporate Inventory Management, Planners, and Allocators on timing of product needs, deliveries, in-stock levels, seasonal allocation and forecasts
    • Develop merchandise vision by season, floor set, and transition periods. Partner with Visual Merchandiser to create floor set directives that support merchandise vision and strategy
    • Collaborate with Marketing on all events, expos, and promotions for assigned product groups
    • Drive rep knowledge within areas of responsibilities including communicating seasonal strategies, presenting updates to field management, and driving rep-level trainings through a variety of mediums
    • Assume additional responsibility as delegated including coordination of division deadlines, projects due to senior management, and attendance in meetings



    • Analyze and react to in-season product performance focusing on sales, margin, and sell-thru rates. Develop action plans based on performance
    • Develop exit strategies specific to product group in order to maximize sales and minimize markdowns and inventory

    Health and Safety Requirement:

    Ensures compliance with the L.L.Bean comprehensive Health and Safety program by knowing and following all safety guidelines, policies, procedures and expectations. Takes immediate and appropriate action to rectify any unsafe conditions.


    • BA/BS required
    • 2-3 years of relevant experience required
    • Retail Assistant Buying or Buying experience preferred
    • Ability to take long-range, strategic approach to problem solving and decision-making through objective analysis, planning and external focus
    • Must possess knowledge of market and competitive trend direction and apply appropriate elements to the L.L.Bean business
    • Ability to clearly communicate (both orally and written) as needed while actively seeking input through collaboration and reinforcement of company vision
    • Demonstrates financial management acumen with complete understanding of all terms, calculations, and retail math metrics
    • Ability to create an environment of innovation through challenging existing patterns of thought and action; encourages calculated risk-taking based on analysis and objective data
    • Results-driven approach, creating a culture of high standards and bias for action and creative problem solving
    • Strong bias towards collaboration with corporate resources by building effective partnerships, leveraging talents of individuals to yield greater results
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks in fast paced environment
    • Detail orientation and organizational skills required
    • MS Office expertise required, along with ability to learn new systems
